Accept or Challenge Who YOU Are

“Much of what we think of as true about ourselves is an elaborate construction of beliefs, prejudices, fears, half-truths, and so on. Beneath that debris of misinformation, there is a true, good, discoverable self. It’s not something you have to create or improve. It’s something that has always been there, but you’ve lost it. True story: A mother awakened to hear voices in her infant child’s bedroom next door. She tiptoed in to find her three-year old standing by the crib saying softly, ‘Baby, baby, tell me about God. I’ve almost forgot.’ Think about that for a moment.”

I know how hard it is to break the image of who I “think” I am … the image that is based on all that external input and assumptions and “ought to be”s. That is based on fear to be anyone else than what I am expected to be … based on beliefs of what I “should” be.  Just accepting that image is so much easier than challenging it and of searching for the truth.  The problem is … THAT’S NOT ME!

I am a unique person … and until I discover and define exactly who I am … what my needs are … what my core values are … what I MUST be in order to be happy … until I do all of that … I will be unhappy.  I may be able to cover my up unhappiness … I may be able to accept just being content … I may even convince myself that I am OK … but I will go through life never really being ME. Never really living  my life …. and that is not what I am here for!
